About the Collection
The Surface collection evolved from my experiments with a 3D pen during the pandemic. Using a technique where PLA filament flows freely onto a flat surface, I create pathways and droplets, lifting the drawing only once it solidifies—a moment that always excites me. Watching the material move across the plane is one of the unique joys of being a designer.
I primarily work with white and translucent PLA, reinforcing the surfaces with silver plates oxidized from the back for added depth. At this stage, I also introduced PLA riveting, putting a designer’s spin on a traditionally metal-based process.
In 2023, these earrings won the Limited Edition award from the Craft Council of BC and were selected for Heidi Lowe Gallery’s collection in 2024.
